We are Secular!!! Ain’t we???

Things have been coming and going on in the country of ours but there are few things which can one can be sure that they will never leave our country atleast until there is a major revamp in the mental frmaework of people. There are many things of that type which we never wanted in our country but are forced to have them amongst us. Corruption being one of them but the thing which i would like to talk about is the great communal divide which exists in ur country. Most highlightd one is The HIndu-Muslim Issue. There have been constant riots and they have been going on for years in India without these fanatics realising the need to stop all this.  Sometime acid bottles are thrown in Aligarh or the other time a Hindu house is set to fire in some other city or may be some Muslim house is set on fire because a Hindu idol had been vandalised.

I dont know why there is such a divide amongst people of India. Why can’t you just live peacefully with a person who doesnt believe in your customs. Just because his customs are different and his festivals are different you can’t just deem him unfit to live with you. I have had severe dislike all my life for such people.

Since i am a hindu so i could never get what perception the general Muslim people have about Hindus and the problem is not only the illetrate and the fundamentalists but even trhe educated middle class people with whom i generaly interact. In kota, the house in which i used to live i had two guys who were also droppers like me and those two guys used to sicken me.They were always filled with contempt of the Muslim people and the religion. Addressing all the Muslims by the word “mulla”is somewhat ok but the other term which is used referring to a practise in Islam is demeaning.

I just so much hate the Hindu fundamentalists like Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena and VHP who threatened that they wont let PAkistan play in our country isnt this an act of foolishness?? HAve they gone mad. Why are we continuing with the tradition with the Britishers of “Divide and RUle” started by them for their own good so that their rule is extended. Why dont we understand that we people need to unify underone banner and that is INDIA if we want our glorious country to come out of the shadows and again become a Golden Bird. The work which was done by the British gvernment is now being done by the politicians who for their petty gains incite the masses who under their influence start doing such things.

I dont think that i achieved what i set out to write somehow my thought process has seemed to dry out so i guess i will finish this post right now.

Just go through this link http://o3.indiatimes.com/onepointoh/archive/2007/01/29/3507314.aspx, read the comments which are posted by the people to see how irrational these type of things are and how people stoop to such low level criticising Gods of other religions and these are all comments on an article which was not even in a remote way related to Hindu-Muslim divide. Reading the comments made me write this one.

PS1:- I just can’t remove the 4 BEATLES songs from being the only ones in my playlist they have been continously playing for last few days and the play count is 122,114,112,114. I want to listen other songs but these 4 songs have cast a spell on me.
PS2:- Recieved a chiding for writing personal posts from somebody. 😦 So for atleast some time none of those atleast i will try to..
PS3:- Was thinking of watching a movie today but ended up writing this and chatting with 2 friends..

  1. Hmm .. i agree with you dude .. i have studied in a Muslim school and also i live in a Muslim neighborhood . All these political leaders and parties like Shiv Sena etc induce this feeling among people and also cause hateredness so that they can win votes and get elected .

THis is a very serious issue and needs to be solved 😦

by the way nice topic to blog on cheers 😉

  2. quite true dude.. the is issue is one of the burning issues on the blocade to the development of Modern India
But while you have pointed out one side, the other side of the coin is the appeasement of Muslims by the ‘psuedo secular’ parties. That is wat irks me the most.. with such psuedo secularism, it’s sometimes natural to expect extereme reactions from the Hindu fundamentalists.. after all they are humans too.
To stop all this, a huge revamp of the system is needed.. people need to realise these little things by themselves that “blood is the same”.
Unfortunately, I don’t see this happening anytime in the near future.. as this feeling has been injected into people from their ancestors..
Wish we could go back to the Hindu-Muslim unity of the early 20th century.
    Peace!

  3. Are we secular ?? sure we are if secular means trying to hang on in the society just coz our constitution says so.Education is the key.It broadens one’s horizons and I think that if a general awareness is created and social equality is brought in the whole relegion issue will take a beating.Muslims are as succesful as Hindus in our country.Bollywood is filled with Khans. They are there playing for our country. Then why term them a minority, why reservation etc etc which puts the seed of being inferior into them and creates a tiff between hindus and muslims.I just hope that politics in our country changes for the good.Btw I hate VHP and shiv sena too.

  4. @ Maruti:Ya it needs to be solved but not much can be aciheved by talking about it or bloggin abt it.. but this is the only thing which people like us can do at thi point of time. 🙂

@ Karan: Abt obama i too think so…I was thinking of writing that point also when i set out to write the post but in the middle i just lost my train of thought so just didnt write abt the appeasement of muslims and the reservation issue

@ Namrata: I too agree with your point about reservation for muslims but we can’t do anything the power greedy politicians will do anything to grab power and we can’t do anything and abt education agreed it changes views but some people inspite of being educated have such views and they dont give a damn even if somebdy says something…

@ @nks: The songs are : I wanna hold your hand
    Hey Jude
    Yesterday
    Help

  5. I agree with Namrata. Education is the key. I just saw the movie ‘Anwar’. Its a must watch for everybody, especially for people like ourselves who are sensitive to the related issue, and would want to do something about it.
It’s my theory that when people (especially in a developing and overpopulated country like ours) have nothing useful to do, and their lives are miserable and they’re frustrated and the people who’re in power either can’t do anything about it, or are lack the willpower to do anything, then they create such hatred to keep people’s minds away from the real issues. After riots and hatred, people either go home with the perverse pleasure (of killing/hurting someone and they’re relieved for the time being of their own load) or they go home hurt, which further makes their minds occupied with hatred and revenge and conspiracy. In either case, the real issues are put on the backburner. People forget that they are still as underpriviliged and deprived as they were before. Vote banks are created, and our gutless, immoral politicians enjoy the pleasure of being in power.

On the other hand, if people are educated, and if they have work to do and they are happy with themselves, such issues won’t bother them at all. Even the politicians know that they cannot fool such people with their low policy of ‘divide and rule’ . The politicians then have to do some real work to appease their voters. And the cycle goes on. Like it’s been going on in Hyderabad. An opposite example could be, i dunno, maybe that of some place in the north. UP?(I hope I haven’t hurt anybody)

  6. BTW, since we’re at it, I’d recommend all of you the book ‘Train to Pakistan’ by Khushwant Singh. It’s had a profound impact on my thinking on this issue. And yeah, please visit the Mecca Masjid near Char Minar, if you already haven’t. It’s a beautiful mosque, with quite an ambience. I love the place.

  7. @aniket. yeah.. train to pakistan’s outstanding.. nd on similar lines read the book ‘lajja’ by taslima nasrin. it got tears in my eyes. yeah.. Mecca Masjid is good too..
@namrata.. well i tend to disagree with you on the point that Muslims are as successful as Hindus. Look at the general crowd.. what percentage of Muslims are pursuing higher educaion? or what percent of Muslims are above the poverty line? The Sachar Report states the same.. unfortunately, politicans use these things to build up ‘vote banks’

@Himank.. u lucky ass.. this is my third comment on the same post 🙂

  8. @himank ..
actually 4 songs of beatles are stuck to my winamp playlist also. but all 4 are different ..
